Happy belated New Year, everyone!
I'm back in the UK, having returned yesterday. I wasn't really very much on the computer / internet while in Germany, partly because my eight-year-old desktop computer threw a tantrum (we reinstalled Windows and various drivers, and then it worked again, but I was able to knit socks while waiting for things to load), but mostly because I was busy having holidays. I met up with a lot of old friends, enjoyed the company and the laughs, went shopping, spent time with my parents, read a lot, watched a little TV - the traditional Christmas and New Year's programs, such as the Czech version of Cinderella ("Drei Nuesse fuer Aschenbroedel"), and "The 80th Birthday (Same Procedure as Last Year?)" - and generally had a very relaxing and refreshing holiday. So much so that part of me wanted to stay.
Nevertheless, yesterday I took the plane back to Blightly, and arrived last night to a cold, cold flat. Shockingly so, because of course in the last two weeks, I have once again grown used to central heating, double glazing, good insulation, and the resulting warmth. But at least there is no snow here, unlike in Germany where for the first two days I was unable to look out of my roof window because it was snowed shut. We had a white Christmas indeed, and an off-white New Year's.
Today, I am mostly unpacking, listening to operas (so far, Rigoletto and Turandot) and getting settled in again in my own four walls.
My batteries are recharged; various resolutions have been made; I believe I'm ready for 2011. Happy New Year!
