It's bloc bloody voting. What's the use in having the contest at all if the results are so foreseeable? Oh, and I am not in the least surprised that Turkey gets 12 points from Germany.
Yep...Terry Wogan got it right when he was commenting on all the geographical/political voting going on. He's so dry :) 'Oh, I wonder who the Ukraine are going to give the 12 to...oh, Russia, there's a surprise...' etc.
I sometimes think it should be a rule that countries can't vote for any country it shares a border/some kind of agenda with :) I mean, Ireland gave the UK quite a few points and our entry was rubbish.
Go Lordi, though - I think they're hilarious but I really didn't expect them to win!
Is it really suprising that countries vote in blocks? Afterall cultural diffussion and all that - is it not just possible that the Balkan states share similar tastes in music? The Brits take the piss out of Eurovision because we haven't won it ages but I reckon secretly we love its kitsch value...
I might agree with you on the similar tastes in music, if the songs had really been different from each other. But mostly, it was more or less Europop, all the same. Except for maybe Croatia, they really stood out. I think we in Germany have been through taking the piss a lot, judging by the entries from a few years ago. This year, the entry was more serious - but having our voting announcer sit on a horse, I mean, that is taking the piss.
Block voting doesn't matter, if there are songs that stand out, they win anyway. Only the years when all contributions are the same does block voting really matter.
I wish the ESC-commentators were more sarcastic though, a couple of years ago we had a brilliant commentator here but he was replaced quickly.
