Ready, Set, Go!

So I've decided to join the
50bookchallenge, since I'm a bookworm anyway, and even if I don't make the goal, at least I'll have an overview of what I am reading.
And, since
brisingamen told me that there are no rules, I decided to make some up myself. I'll be keeping the "official" 50 books tally, but at the same time I'll do a "50 points in 12 months" list. Each book is one point. A book I'm re-reading and have read in the last five years (such as the Terry Pratchett books) or a textbook which I am only partly reading will get 1/2 point, and a book with more than an arbitrary number of pages, say, 365, will get 1 1/2 points. Hence, Lord of the Rings is worth one point: 1 1/2 because it's long, minus 1/2 point for being re-read. Hah!
The good thing about rules you make up yourself is that at any time, you can break them. I'll be starting today (with the reading, not with the rule-breaking, though that might be fun as well). Let's see what happens.
In other news: Do you know the feeling of having an absurd or nonsensical phrase stuck in your head for no discernible reason? For the past half hour, the phrase that has been stuck in mine is "voracious manatee".

Date: 2005-12-28 04:29 pm (UTC)Good luck. I think I'm going to fail to reach my target (only 53 days left till my 40th B-day ... my start point ... and 12 books to go. Wow, it doesn't seem so bad when written like that) although I'll achieve my goal -- reading more!
Doug.

Date: 2005-12-28 10:03 pm (UTC)Those 365 pages was an arbitrary number. I realize now it's sort of too low, so I'll say 'X', because surely Joyce's Ulysses gives more experience points than, say, any Harry Potter book you'd care to mention. ;-)
Hah! *makes note of birthday* Would you like the gift of a book?

Date: 2005-12-28 10:46 pm (UTC)Lately I've been saying at spontaneous moments "you that was vomited from the mouth of a wall mounted boar" (in the thickest british accent I can attempt)
Does that count for random?
