Academia calls. Calls for academia.

So I've been googling for creative academic outlets, and got a few results, but they were all calls for papers from one to five years ago. It seems I need to snowball-search in this instance, or even paper-search, to find the places that would be interested in academic essays on science fiction.
(Edit: I was brilliant enough to add "2006" to my search, and that helped a little.)
I do have a couple of other topics in the back of my mind for publication, and I need to get them on paper, because frankly, every time I search for my dream job, they ask for a record of one's publications, and I don't think student newspapers count, even if I was chief editor for quite some time. In fact, I think I was the only chief editor that paper ever had, but that still won't help me much now.
But the main thing is to get the proverbial foot into Academia's door. Now to see what I can add to it.

Another place to start is book reviews--I've written two so far and am supposed to be doing a third. This is thanks to my advisor, who passes on to me anything he doesn't want to bother with and thinks I might be interested in. Bug your advisor and get him/her to do the same.

Oh, come on, it's only fans! And ION I sat down to watch The Empty Child last night, and found that the tape was speeded up--I need to play it on someone else's machine soon to find out if it's the tape or my machine that's the problem.

That's strange, it worked perfectly on my VCRs... Sorry to hear that. Is it completely unwatchable?

It's not like you'd be talking to an auditorium. You'd be in a small hotel conference room with anywhere from ten to twenty fans listening to whatever pearls of wisdom you wished to cast before them. Then they'd savage you because fans always know more than the experts.

That didn't help, did it? ^_^

Add to that the fact that I'll be casting those pearls of wisdom in what is to me a foreign language. On the other hand, I could then pretend not to understand them when they start savaging me.

They do say that we should find that which scares us most, and then do it... ;-)
