You'll get lots of infodump about the Festival of Writing in the very near future (not tonight though, thank you very much, it's already almost tomorrow and I need my beauty sleep). Still, I want to tell you something about the latest Doctor Who episode, "The Beast Below".
I've seen lots of Doctor Who episodes. I've seen the Ninth Doctor turn into Ten. I've seen the teary goodbye between Ten and Rose. I've seen the Master die. I've seen "Journey's End" and what they did to Donna. I've seen "The End of Time" and Ten's rage against the dying of the light. All very emotional episodes, with emotional impact on the viewer.
But none of them had me crying like the last few minutes of "The Beast Below" did. Because this is not about finality and endings, but about change, acceptance and understanding.
It is also the velvet glove, and not the sledgehammer.
Beautiful, beautiful writing and acting.
eta: Now I realise. It's the music. A little bit like the Barber Adagio for Strings, but then it turns more "happy". And it's subtle. That's what it is.
