This & that on a Sunday afternoon
Mar. 22nd, 2009 04:45 pmWhat a beautiful day! Sunshine, warmth, and all that - and of course it's supposed to be raining the day my cousin arrives here. *shrugs* There is enough to do and see in London even when it rains, right?
I used the sunshine to clear my patio of the remains of yesteryear's leaves and the weeds growing between the stone slabs, discovered a nest of woodlice (apparently, according to QI, they are edible, but there's a frying steak in the fridge I'd much rather have for dinner), disposed of two dead plants and cut down one of the two surviving pelars I'd saved from the scrap heap last autumn - both those pelars are doing well and are growing, which is nice.
As soon as I was more or less finished, my immediate neighbours started up a barbecue. Of course, the wind is such that the wood smoke blows into my living room, and I bet I won't be offered a grilled sausage, either. Never mind, those neighbours are friendly and their parties exuberant, but not too long. I like them (I think they are Polish).
My living room is also presentable, my bedroom still OK from a few weeks ago. Cousin will arrive here on Wednesday evening, so I'll do the rest on that morning, including running the vacuum around. I don't want to seem like a messy person. It's one thing to be chaotic when alone, and quite another when having visitors.
My parents just called. Mum had been away for a week, visiting her family, and they appear to celebrate her return in the company of Misters Mueller and Thurgau. I hope they can make it over here soon, or I can go visit them. I was even invited to the Sweden tour they'll make in August, it seems there are two more beds than travellers. I am tempted...
