Money, Money, Money
Sep. 5th, 2008 12:52 pmI think I spent as much money in the last two days as I earned in a month not too long ago. On Wednesday, I booked two flights for December, one which will take me to the Czech Republic for my grandmother's 90th birthday, and one that will take me to Germany for Christmas and New Year's. This should be fun.
Yesterday, after work, I went to Liberty's in search of a pattern book I knew was there, but couldn't find online. Of course, you don't go into a yarn store without picking up some, the same way you can't go into a bookstore without buying a book. Which is one reason why I am so rarely in bookshops these days - I prefer Oxfam or Amazon. Not that I don't spend money there... Speaking of Oxfam, I found these two 1950's pattern books there, slightly foxed, and ordered them.
Anyway, after Liberty's, I headed down Regent Street, browsing the shop windows, and looking around for new tops. I found them at Next - one very nice, dark aubergine tunic, and my childhood dream - a Wonder Woman t-shirt. Yay!
Then I stumbled over Lush, and let the nice saleswoman talk me into buying what I needed anyway, shampoo, shower gel (their new "Rub Rub Rub" one with Jasmine, Lemon, and sea salt), and a bar of Shark Fin Soap (did you know that "100 million sharks are killed every year for their fins (used in shark fin soup), flesh (15,000 fish and chip shops in the UK sell shark), cartilage (for "healthcare" supplements) and oil (used in cosmetics)"?).
I may be eating Ramen noodles for the rest of the month, but oh, it's worth it.
I also found out that there's a bus going from Regent Street right to my front door (or at least to the nearest bus stop), which is great, and I don't think the travel time is much longer than if I took the tube, train, and bus home, if it is at all.
Tomorrow, I will be able to satisfy my budding knit gene (and hopefully also my wallet) by going to the I Knit London Day. That should be very inspiring.
