Take it easy
Mar. 5th, 2008 12:17 pmThat is exactly what I'm doing today, my travelling-back-home day.
I crawled back into bed after saying goodbye to
idahoswede at what still to me is silly o'clock in the morning, but which I will have to get used to after Easter.
Got up at nine (horrors!), had breakfast in front of the TV (Coffee, hot water bottle on my stomach, and Top Gear on the telly), took a brief walk in the beautiful, if cold, sunshine, and will now start to slowly pack and then go to the airport, where I expect to be sitting in a cafe with coffee and book (Yes, I bought books, I just can't help it... I'll start on Fry's "Moab is my Washpot" later today). I should never have discovered Foyle's, I'm telling you. I am so going to get a library card... but not for the Library of London, Ontario, the site of which I had just been looking at for minutes before realizing that there was a reason why I couldn't find any of the locations on my mental map of London. *headdesks*
Last night, I enjoyed myself immensely. I was sat in a pub with Red, watching ManU beat Lyon. Believe it or not, this was the first game of football I was actually watching all the way through, and surprising myself, I found it to be very exciting. This may have had something to do with the running commentary and enthusiasm coming from all around me.
Yes, the coming weeks will be interesting, in a "may you live in interesting times" sort of way. There will be goodbyes, and tears, and maybe even regrets. There will be excitement, and "oh man I really need this but it's too heavy" 's, and all sorts of decisions to make.
Yes, sooner or later the City will loose it's glamour, I will get culture shock and / or homesickness, and I'll have a lot to learn.
But I'm going to live through it, and enjoy every minute - even the bad minutes - because this is right.
