So I'm watching, or rather listening to, this gala of classical music favourites; well-known opera arias mostly (Vissi d'Arte; La donna e mobile; something out of Ballo in Maschera; and of course Nessun Dorma). And suddenly, I am jumping towards the TV and putting the sound on full blast: It's the overture of "Candide".
It's definitely one of those pieces that will put a smile on everyone's face, I'd even say it's worthy of the last Night of the Proms. Then they show the audience, and - sure enough, not a single smile. Bah. "Classical" doesn't always mean "serious"; I mean, listen to Mozart when he's had a few too many.
Oh, and it's "I am so easily assimilated" now. Wonderful. Me muero!
