SL benefits RL
Nov. 6th, 2007 11:18 pmSo, after a week, I've finally set foot again in Second Life. It feels different, it doesn't feel like I'm hiding. If it had, I would have said goodbye for another week; I don't need yet another addiction.
Anyway. The place I live in... no. The virtual place my avatar resides in contains, among other things, a conservatory; a two-storey sandstone building in an English style. Within this, there's an art exhibition, a library / reading room, and a stage. It's a nice place to visit.
The stage is used to host benefit and charity concerts for the American Cancer Society. I, having been given the fancy title of Events Manager, am basically doing what I'd do there anyway: Hang around at concerts, art fairs and poetry readings, and invite the musicians, artists and poets to our conservatory. The owner of the place is aiming at a European audience, which suits me fine; however, I said, we still need a European charity to work with.
Today, I talked to the people of the Association for International Cancer Research. Turns out they're based in Glasgow (and their celebrity patron is David Tennant). I had a nice chat with the guy in charge, and we've come to an agreement that works well for all involved.
If there is a charity I support, it's cancer research. For Fi, for D., for my family friend, my niece, and my nephew's son. If I can do it through SL, I will.
