More gigs like this, please!
Jan. 7th, 2007 01:31 pmThe "Festival" setup last night was that two bands would play in two next-door venues, where one venue would host the acoustic folk and the other the folk rock bands. In theory, it was planned that the first acoustic band would start at 7 o'clock, the first rock band at 8, and people would be able to go from one to the other as fancy struck them.
Of course, as it is with the best laid plans, things didn't work out. The first acoustic band wasn't even on stage at 8 o'clock, the time we were supposed to start playing. So we were pushed back to 8:30, which was fine with us, since we didn't even get to do the soundcheck until 6:30 on account of the other band hogging the stage.
Before finally going on stage, and for the first time ever I believe, we did the circle thing you usually see at American football games. Like swearing us in to be a band. And whoever it was that started this, it worked magic.
Damn, but we're good when we're having fun! Yeah so everyone had one slip-up or two, but we shrugged it off. We had a roomy stage, which we used to our advantage. G.s voice held until the end, and he and N. worked the crowd - and a crowd it was. People came over to our venue and stayed to listen (which is either a compliment to us, or a comment on the other band playing at that time). During one instrumental, the singers and the bass player danced in front of the stage, an image I will not forget until my dying day, it was so hilarous. After "Black is the Colour", you could have heard a needle drop. Yes, I know I'm gushing about that gig last night, but it was as close to perfect as I think is possible. M. said so as well, and even P. had nothing to criticise. I know a recording was done, but I believe I shall not listen to it.
However, what completely bowled me over was the applause people gave me when we did the band introductions. Wow. Was I that good last night?
Anyway. I won't comment on the band playing the second half of the festival, I'll only say that whereas we played two hours as instructed, they played almost three and a half, or, in other words, until the venue was almost empty. With getting our stuff off the stage and driving home, this resulted in me getting to bed at half past three.
Good thing today's Sunday.
