It has been an exciting and fun three days in London. It was wet, and cold, some might say typical English weather; only on our last day, the sun came out. It was too bad about the rain, and the freezing temperatures, as some sights didn't look as good as they do in the sunshine. But, as we both said, we can't change the weather, and it gave us an excuse to make stopovers in pubs to get warm again.
We did a lot of "touristy" things, of course. We travelled by tube a lot; we saw Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, Picadilly Circus, the Thames and the London Eye, Portobello Road, the Tower and Tower Bridge; we went to Harrod's for a lark. We had lunch in an Indian restaurant, had fish and chips, and sat in the King's Head, an excellent pub around the corner from our hotel.
Big Ben, first seen from the exit of Westminster tube station, had the desired "wow!"-effect. I think the only thing my mum was disappointed in was Picadilly Circus; it is smaller and messier in real life than on postcards or in films. That, and the fish & chips they serve in the Weatherspoon's pub chain. I guess the food was not as she expected it to be. The curry, on the other hand, was excellent. We also ate sandwiches gotten from Marks & Spencer's, in a shopping mall close to Bayswater tube station.

In the evenings, I had time off to meet a very good friend of mine who currently lives in London. It is much appreciated that he took the time and travelled all the way from Walthamstow and back to see me, since I was unable to travel there. Next time, I will, though, even if I have to go to Barking.
I also managed to bring back a few goodies for my friends at home (chocolate, mostly, and BLT sandwiches - they don't have them here. Sandwiches are the greatest invention of food to come from the UK, I believe), and I managed to buy some books and DVDs.

All in all, we had a good time, and I think my mum had a good first impression of London. I would have loved to show her more, but we only had three days after all. She has already said that she'd like to go back one day, and I am happy to hear that.
