Christmas in BiSto
Dec. 4th, 2011 03:26 pmBiSto had a Christmas shopping festival today, with an added cultural programme and treasure hunt. The parallels to one of the Second Life hunts was amazing.
The events started at 10 o'clock, and I hit the town shortly afterwards. The aim of the hunt was to gather 15 stamps from different shops, and you would also get a goody bag. If you gather all the stamps, you could enter in a prize draw (which I did).
There were mince pies and mulled wine (non-alcoholic, alas), brownies and nibbles and even champagne, free for all (or, occasionally, for a donation to the local hospice charity). I also bought a few chestnuts and had a glimpse inside Santa's grotto, listened to a santa-hatted choir singing Christmas songs, and did a little Christmas shopping. At one hairdresser's next to a restaurant, you could get a complimentary head massage with your mulled wine, and a free glass of apple and plum chutney. I was ambling around, gathering my stamps and thoroughly enjoying myself, and not just because of the champagne.
And to top it off, the local well-being shop and spa, who do massages, body treatments and whatnot, offered taster sessions for a fiver. I chose the Indian head massage, which lasted about 25 minutes, and I am still gooey two hours later. My hair is smelling of the sandalwood and ylang-ylang oil the therapist used. I'll definitely be back there.
So, my loot! A beautiful lemon cupcake (which I will be snarfing down with a cuppa in a few minutes), together with a voucher for six free vanilla cupcakes. Pencils and notepaper with magnetic back to put on a fridge, from a local solicitor's firm (not ours). Assorted chocolates, two of which are high-quality pralines. Home-made fudge. A glass of apple and plum chutney. Magic Reindeer Food (which is oats with sprinkles in and will probably find it's way to BossSon). Various hair products. A £10 voucher at a local jeweller's. A couple of vouchers at a hairdresser's and beauty salon. Also a voucher on an out-of-town spa and percentages off shoes and handbags, which I wouldn't buy anyway, and 10% off my booking for a haircut tomorrow.
Plus, as I said, drinks and nibbles and four hours of fun and walking. Not bad, all told.
