I have just come back from the BiSto council offices, where I have signed my allotment tenancy agreement and received the key to the allotment site.

It's real.

Now, I've been making plans, and there is one rather practical problem: that of transportation. While I am able to walk to the site... to my allotment... in 15 minutes, I would not want to carry gardening tools and other materials to and from the place. There is no shed there yet where I could store things, so I can't leave my stuff there, open to the elements and goodness knows what else, and I cannot balance everything on my bike. Therefore I have decided to get myself a "granny trolley", one of those four-wheeled shopping trolleys of the sturdy, tartan-clad type. Tools, a snack, and a thermos of tea, should be good. Of course, I also need to get the tools, and the thermos...

When not in use, I need to stow that away in my flat somewhere, but I am sure I will find space.

My next step is to go to the allotment on Saturday, weather permitting, and do some preliminary clearing, measuring and thinking. I have ordered some more seed cataogs, and am reading through my half a dozen of library books on allotmenteering. I've also joined the BiSto freecycle group in the hopes that something useful will be offered there.

I'm actually quite glad that I got the allotment in autumn (though a week or two earlier might've been nice), because that will give me time to get it at least partly in shape for early spring. Again, weather permitting. I am not crazy enough to dig through snow.

Yet.
