Let my garden grow
Apr. 2nd, 2011 01:15 pmMan it's warm! I am seriously considering taking a blanket and a book and reading in our "community yard" (aka the strip of grass behind the house I live in).
Speaking of which, my erstwhile neighbour the taxi driver has transformed the grass next to a fence into a little garden - there are tulips and daffodils blooming, and two of the four roses he planted are doing very well. But since taxi driver moved out last autumn, the garden has run to seed, something I can see when looking out of my window. So, since nobody stepped forward, I have today dug out weeds, including insidiuous bindweed, which looked like a little sprouty thing but had roots going through what seemed like miles of earth. I removed the dead roses and cut off a few errant branches from the bush next door which grew through the fence and stole the light, and I have planted freesias, gladiolas and anemones. Maybe they'll grow, maybe they won't, but at least I tried.
I also got burned by a stinging nettle in the process, something that hasn't happened to me in so long, I had forgotten what it felt like.
Meanwhile, my bed linen has been washed and is drying in the fresh air outside, and I should probably do some spring cleaning, since this is the last weekend I have before Easter. Oh, didn't I mention? I'm going to fly to Germany next Saturday, and then take a trip to Turkey with my mom, there to see, among other things, Troy. This should be good!
