Let your fingers do the walking
Apr. 3rd, 2008 10:53 pmYesterday after work, I walked around London like a headless chicken, looking for an art supply shop. I thought I might find one where museums are, and went towards the Victoria & Albert, after being highly astonished at the fact that there is no exchange office at Big Ben. I mean, if there's one thing on every tourist's itinerary, it's the Houses of Parliament. But, no luck there. More luck at Victoria station, of course. No luck with the art supply shop.
So I thought, National Portrait Gallery, and went down Charing Cross Road, stopping by a few used book stores and thinking of hh, and then being drawn into Chinatown by delicious smells, but sadly, I ended up at Piccadilly Circus yet again, and by that time it was late and I was annoyed and tired, so I went home.
Today I had the brilliant idea to look up the yellow pages on t'internet, and lo and behold, I am now the proud owner of a ring binder of 80 leaves of acid free 135gsm cartridge paper and ten pencils of various degrees, for less than five pounds, from a little shop on Charing Cross Road, just behind the National Portrait Gallery. So my initial idea wasn't too far off, but this time it was more fulfilling to just get the address and directions and find what I was looking for in less than five minutes. I can do the being-led-by-my-feet another day.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, I honestly can't draw or sketch. Nevertheless, I'm going to try. Just be glad I don't have a scanner here. ;)
