Please, not another lonely god...

I've just seen a trailer for the new Superman film "Superman Returns" (remind me again why I need to install iTunes when all I want is Quicktime?), and at the end you hear Jor-El's voice - this won't get a spoiler cut, because those who don't know who Jor-El and Kal-El are obviously don't care about Superman comic books - anyway, Jor-El says, "They can be a great people, if they wish to be. All they lack is a light to show the way. For this reason above all I sent them you, my only son." All this with very heroic music.

Good Grief! Since when is Jesus Superman's secret identity?

... and yes, I am probably going to watch it anyway. I grew up on DC Comics!

I somehow can't really get excited over this movie. My love for Bryan Singer may be vast and enduring... but Superman always bored me. :(

It's dialogue straight from the 1978 movie, to which this is intended to be a replacement second sequel (thus wiping Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace from our grateful memories).

The KE/JC connection is fairly heavily underlined in the final scenes, apparently.

I never saw it in English, which is probably why I didn't realize the dialogue thing, although a lot of scenes looked very familiar. Only this time, Lex didn't have hair.

But - why? Isn't it enough that he can fly and is faster than a speeding bullet and whatnot, they don't have to make religious allusions, do they? Or am I missing something (it's been known to happen!)?

Superman's just too... good, and probably a little two-dimensional; has been for a long time. I've always preferred Batman, and Wonder Woman, of course.

I think I need to hit the comic store again sometime soon...

But that dialogue is from the original film - it's spoken by Marlon Brando. So it is the original film you must aim the accusation at, not the new one. And Lex was, indeed, bald in the first movie - at the end, when he and Otis have been dumped unceremoniously in the prison, he whips off his wig as he goes into a rant.

Quicktime is evil, evil, evil!!! Uninstall it, go to filehippo and install quicktime lite. Not Itunes and no placing itself in your startup everytime you watch something.

Otis also gets freaked earlier, when he spots the wig in Lex's bed.

The biblical stuff was in from the start, of course, though JS/JS were actually alluding to Moses rather than JC (possibly because they were Jewish).

You don't need to install iTunes when all you want is Quicktime. There is an Quicktime-only-installer on the apple page..
